私は外出する時、罫線のないノートを持ち歩いている。バッグや車の中などに合わせて、大きさはまちまちだが、共通するのは罫線がないこと。一般的には、スケッチブックやクロッキー帳とよばれるものだ。
それらのノートを持ち歩くのは、美術のデッサンや絵を描くためではなく、思いついたアイデアを忘れずに書き留めておくためである。
何のアイデアか？ 何でもいいのだ、ジャンルは問わない。とにかく、忘れてしまわないうちに、思いついたこと、閃いたことを書き留めておく。図でも、記号でも、文字でも構わない。とにかく、その場で思いついたことを書き留めておくのだ。

そんなある日、休日で遊びに行った帰りの電車の中、景色を眺めているとき、突然閃いた。何がきっかけだったのかは不明だったが、閃いた内容を記録した。
翌週、会社でそれを見返して見たところ、いくつかの間違いはあったが、基本的には使える案だった。
閃きを記録するのは、たった数分のことだったが、それが大いに役立った。
何かを思いついたら、すぐに記録して忘れないようにする。記録媒体としては、スマホでもよいが、思いついた時点では内容が整理されていないことを考慮すると白紙のスケッチブックのようなものが適していると思う。ノートの方が記録の自由度が高いからだ。

When you come up with an idea, write it
down immediately so you don't forget. A smartphone is fine as a recording
medium, but considering that the content will not be organized when you come up
with an idea, I think something like a blank sketchbook is more suitable. This
is because a notebook allows you more freedom to record things.
